Why Do U.S. Taxpayers Subsidize Cuban Jews?
• U.S. man arrested for spying reveals funneling of your taxpayer dollars to foreign religious group

. The imprisonment in Cuba of an American
man points toward a long-standing “dirty secret”:
U.S. taxpayer dollars — in flagrant violation
of the U.S. Constitution and the
tradition of separation of church and state — have
bankrolled the affairs of the Jewish community, not
only here in the United States but now even in Cuba.
Here’s the story: In 2009, Alan Gross — a Maryland
man working as a contractor in so-called “pro-democracy”
activities for the U.S. Agency for International
Development (USAID) — was charged by the Castro
regime with “actions against the integrity of the state.”
Convicted of spying — which Gross and the U.S.
government deny — Gross was sentenced to 15 years
in prison. Now, Jewish leaders and American politicians
are demanding the ailing man’s release on humanitarian
grounds.
Whether Gross was a spy remains to be proved,
but it is known that USAID has often provided cover
abroad for operatives of the CIA and other U.S. intelligence
agencies.
However, considering the intense interest shown
in the Gross case by the Jewish community — Gross is
Jewish — some have speculated Gross may have been
a spy, but working for Israel rather than the United
States (even though he was on the U.S. payroll.)
In any case, what Gross definitely was doing in
Cuba — admitted by Jewish community newspapers
and the mainstream media — is what is interesting:
Subsidized by U.S. tax dollars, Gross was providing
technology and support for three Cuban Jewish communities
to assist them in gaining Internet access.
While Americans have been told for generations
that their tax dollars may never provide funding for
any religious group, that is precisely what Gross was
doing for the Jews of Cuba.
Although Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtenin (R-Fla.) — of
Jewish extraction — has been a loud champion of
Gross’s cause, her office — pressed by AFP — was unable
to explain why Gross’s actions were not un-Constitutional
or why the Cuban Jews were receiving
special treatment at U.S. taxpayer expense.
In fact, there is no indication USAID has come to
the Internet support of any other religious group in
Cuba but the Jewish community.
This should come as no surprise, considering the
fact that — here in the United States — Jewish organizations
run by Jews for Jews annually receive billions
of U.S. taxpayer dollars, local, state and federal.
On September 26, 1995, the Palm Beach (Florida)
Jewish Journal published a story entitled “Study
shows Jewish agencies highly dependent on federal
government” reporting that “Jewish communal agencies
receive more than $3.67 billion from federal,
state and local governments, representing about 41
percent of their total budgets.” Such funding continues
to this day.
This means a nationwide taxpayer-subsidized religious
politico-socio-economic superstructure underwrites —
with U.S. tax dollars — a considerable level
of activity by American Jews.
Congressional offices assure concerned citizens
that these Jewish agencies that reap billions of tax
dollars are actually “cultural” — not religious — organizations.
The Alan Gross affair now calls all of this to our
attention, inasmuch as American tax dollars are now
even subsidizing the affairs of the Jews of Cuba and
who knows where else.
